Dr. Barbara S. Robinson

Dr. Barbara S. Robinson, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026 at Regency Retirement Center of Morristown after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Christian Gordon Robinson; her parents, Doyle Legree Smith and Mary Bell Smith; and her husband of 61 years, Leo Shults Robinson. She is survived by her son and daughterin- law, Dr. Maurice and Cynthia Robinson; her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Eustacia and Rob Pratt; brother and sister-inlaw, Lt General (ret) Hubert and Nancy Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Rick Lemieux; granddaughter and grandson, Ashley and Jason Coffey; granddaughter, Alex Robinson; and beloved great-granddaughter, Annabelle Coffey. Barbara was born on October 13, 1942 and grew up in the mountains of Del Rio, TN, in the house her father had built. Her parents instilled in her a love of Jesus, family, and hard work. She graduated from high school at the age of 15, married, and settled in Newport, TN to begin the long commute to East Tennessee State University to receive a Bachelors degree in English, then a Masters degree in Education. She began her 32 year teaching career at Cocke County High School, teaching seniors, some of whom were older than she was. She then moved to Morristown to teach AP English at Morristown East High School. She retired from teaching after 32 years and returned to school at University of Tennessee to obtain a Masters in Counseling, and then a Doctorate in Counseling. She practiced counseling psychology at Wellsprings for over 15 years. Barbara was a devout Christian who was saved at a young age at the Church of God in Del Rio Tennessee where she began her life of Christian service at age 12 by playing the piano. She continued her Christian service by playing either the piano or organ at every church she attended (and at Regency) for 71 years. Her favorite music to play was Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and Pachelbel’s Canon in D for weddings. The family would like to thank Regency Retirement Center’s Memory Care Unit and UT Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Barbara. Each and every one of you will be remembered for the love you showed to Barbara. A private graveside service was held on June 1, 2026 at Union Cemetery in Newport with Rev. Michael Turner officiating and Westside Chapel Funeral home coordinated her funeral and burial services.
