Richard (Dick) Giddish, 93, of Morristown, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born on December 7, 1932, in Bristol, CT to Andrew and Gertrude Giddish.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of almost 71 years, Marilyn Giddish.
He passed away just ten days shy of their 71st wedding anniversary on June 18, 1955.
He is survived by their three children, Lin (Jack) Maloney of Morristown, TN, Rick (Becky) Giddish of Kingsport, TN, and Gregg Giddish of Jefferson City, TN. He is survived by three grandchildren Erin (Drew) Holbrook of Athens, TN, Beth (Javan) Crockett of Morristown, TN, and David Maloney of Nashville, TN. He is survived by six great-grandchildren Alton, Grayson, Ella Holbrook and Jaxson, Emmalin, and Camden Crockett. Dick also leaves behind their beloved 11-year-old cat, Lily.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Gertrude Giddish. His mother and father-in-law, George and Mary Waldie. And siblings Ernest Giddish, George Giddish, and Clarice Stevens.
In December 1973, Dick and Marilyn moved from Cromwell, CT to Morristown, TN for his job with General Electric. Dick worked for GE for over 30 years before retiring. Known for his hard work ethic, Dick touched the lives of his family and friends through various projects and hobbies. Those close to Dick, knew he was the jack of all trades. He was the nicest and funniest person, but also an honest voice of reason. His first job was at a bowling alley in Connecticut, where he hitch hiked to work where he set bowling pins. Dick could make or fix anything! He made most of the furniture in Dick and Marilyn’s house, including two grandfather clocks and the family’s first color TV with a remote control.
He had several hobbies including hunting, surf casting, target shooting, boating, motorcycles, and RC airplanes. Dick was also an advanced ham radio operator. His grandchildren can remember him talking to people all over the world!
There will be no calling hours. The family would like to invite friends to drop in on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Giddish residence.
