MPD accepting applications for Citizen’s Police Academy

The Morristown Police Department is preparing for its 27th Citizen’s Police Academy. Classes will be held from June 2 – June 25. Classes will be held at the Morristown Police Department each Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Academy participants will become familiar with the MPD through hands-on exercises; they will also be allowed to complete an eight-hour ride along with an officer.

Applications are now available to the public. Applicants that are interested may pick up an application at the Morristown Police Department located on the first floor of the City Center; on the City’s website www.mymorristown.com under the Police Department tab; or you may call the Training Division and have one emailed. The application deadline is April 24.

Due to limited space, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. All applicants are subject to a background investigation. Applications can be mailed to the Morristown Police Department, P.O. Box 1283 Morristown, TN 37816 or be turned in at the Morristown Police Department Records Division.

Applicants must be 21 years of age. Those who miss Academy # 27, due to limited space, will have the opportunity to attend the next academy with dates to be announced later.

MPD invites interested citizens to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy. Upon completion of this course, each citizen will have a better understanding of the daily operations of the Morristown Police Department. It is MPD’s goal to continue to build a partnership with the community.

Any questions concerning the Citizen’s Police Academy #27 class may be directed to Capt. Todd King at 423-585-4646.
