Event to celebrate Dockery planned for Saturday
It’s going to be a double celebration.
On Saturday, April 25 from noon to 6 p.m., friends and family are invited to celebrate both the 90th birthday of Morristown businessman, education advocate and local icon Walter Dockery at Fuling Hill Park on E. North 6th Street.
Dockery was raised in Morristown, attending Morristown College before going to Georgia where he eventually retired from the Dekalb County Recreation Department.
He and his wife Peggy purchased the family business – now known as Dockery Senter Funeral Home – in 1991, helping to return it to its former glory. The business will reach its 100th anniversary in 2030, roughly six years before Dockery, known as Tockey to his friends, will reach his.
But Dockery’s 90th is only part of the celebration.
The event will also recognized the Dockery’s 70th wedding anniversary.
Again, all friends and family are invited to celebrate.
