Letter to the Editor
The Citizen Tribune printed an editorial from The London Guardian on May 13, 2026, that stresses a dissenting opinion of Supreme Court justice Elena Kagan saying our Supreme Court is “deeply compromised “ and, if “its decisions are left unchecked will undermine American democracy.
The court must be confronted and transformed by the next Democrat administration.”
The majority of our Supreme Court stated that our Constitution generally forbids race-based discrimination and that previous interpretations of the Voting Rights Act had forced states to engage in the very race-based classification the Constitution forbids.
First, copying an opinion from a British national daily newspaper headquartered in London, England, is questionable.
Second, this position is the same as our own Democrat Party in the United Statesdoes this mean this is also the political position of the Citizens Tribune?
Editor’s Note: It does not. We select national and international editorials that convey varying viewpoints on issues of the day as well as societal issues that may draw interest. or spark discussion. See today’s example at left.
Last, but not least, it is noteworthy that the majority of (5-4) of justices refuted the Kagan argument, maintaining that they were applying the law to restrict gerrymandering based on race, rather than limiting the Voter Rights Act. John Stroud Morristown
