Jimmy George McGill, age 80, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on June 13, 2026, at the Lake City VA Medical Center in Lake City, Florida. Jimmy was born on August 18, 1945, to Millie Davis Mc-Gill and Clinton McGill in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the fifth of six children. After eventually moving to Morristown, he graduated from Morristown High School in 1963 before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1969, serving in Vietnam until 1972. Jimmy then attended college to become a teacher, graduating from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in teaching in the spring of 1974. He then worked as a math and science teacher at Lincoln Heights Middle School while pursuing his master’s degree, becoming certified as a guidance counselor. After obtaining his degree, he worked as a guidance counselor at Lincoln Heights Middle School. He later moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and became a guidance counselor at Hilton Head Island High School before retiring in 2009. Jim loved fixing up and restoring old cars, ballroom dancing, and fishing, and he spent his retirement surrounded by friends and family. Jimmy was predeceased by both his mother and father, Millie Davis McGill and Clinton McGill; and his five siblings, Margaret Jeanks, Joann Meek, Polly May, Ollie Holston, and Joe McGill. Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Aimee Fowler of Grosse Pointe, MI; his grandchildren, Ben Fowler and Sophia Fowler of Grosse Pointe, MI; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18th, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19th, at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
