James William “Jim” Shaver

James William “Jim” Shaver was born October 21, 1942, in Jefferson City, TN, to the late Clyde L. V. “Tater” Shaver and Mary Margaret (Ryan) Shaver, the oldest of four children.
Jim grew up in Tennessee and Virginia and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute, left to serve in the U.S. Army in Thailand (Vietnam War) and returned to Virginia Tech to complete his B.A. and M.A. degrees in Electrical Engineering. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after many years. He then moved to North Augusta as he worked at the Savannah River Plant where he also retired. Jim always enjoyed hunting, fishing, music and avid skeet shooter. Long summer vacations and other family visits back home to Tennessee gave him the opportunity to do just that with uncles and cousins whose company he always enjoyed. The guitar was his instrument. He was a big fan of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, and he would go from country music to blues to standards. One of his greatest joys was watching the grandchildren grow up. He enjoyed keeping up with all their interests from music lessons, sports, school and then their jobs as adults.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Norma Jean (Seal) Shaver; his sister, Charlotte Katy Shaver; paternal grandparents, James William and Mary Isabel (Arnett) Shaver; maternal grandparents, John Simpson and Alice (Bishop) Rines.
He is survived by step-son, Brian Trent (Jenniffer) of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Taylor Trent (Rachel), Cassie Trent, Colby Trent; great-grandchildren, Maddox Trent, Hudson Trent and Nora Trent; sisters, Susan (Bob) Knight of Sarasota, FL, and Mary Alice (Dennis) Wertz of Cookeville, TN; nieces, Katy Palk (daughter, Alissa), and Sarah (Joe) Denton (son, and other family visits back home to Tennessee gave him the opportunity to do just that with uncles and cousins whose company he always enjoyed.
