MAA celebrates local artists with juried show

The Morristown Art Association announced winners for its 56th Annual Juried Art Show at an Artists’ reception on Sunday.

The art hung in the Edith Davis Gallery at the Rose Center, Morristown’s art and culture center that is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Artists viewed each other’s works in the gallery and socialized inside the lobby of the grand, historic building.

“This is a really lovely collection of pieces,” the event’s jurist and artist out of Knoxville Hannah Hancock said. “Judging took a while for me, which was about an hour. That’s a while for me because I’m pretty quick with my decision-making, but there was a lot of really, really fabulous pieces.”

The artists gathered around to hear the announcements of winners. They are: 56th Annual Juried Art Show Award Winners

“We were very grateful for the partnership with Morristown Art Association,” said Rose Center Executive Director Beccy Hamm. “(The MAA has been around) all these 50 years. They are older than Rose Center. They do wonderful things, especially Arts in the Park in September. And their monthly meetings are held here and they help us with the school shows. So we value their partnership.”

As a supporter of the arts, there are plenty of opportunities at the Rose Center to learn and engage with the arts.

“Rose Center has (over the course of its 50 years) continued its mission to provide cultural programming for our community,” Hamm said. “We have a history museum upstairs. We have art camps in the summer. We have a lot of different programs.”

Hamm pointed out a newly renovated gift shop that features 30 to 40 local artists’ works for viewing and sale. There’s also special, commemorative 50th anniversary t-shirts for sale.
