A Distinct Honor

The Hamblen County Board of Education was recognized this year as a “Board of Distinction” from the National Beta Club Organization.

This was announced at Tuesday’s Board of Education Meeting held at the Central Office’s Heritage Room.

“We are one of only 95 districts in America who have been recognized for this honor,” Hamblen County Superintendent of Schools Arnold Bunch, Jr. said. “We are also one of only four or five districts recognized in the state. We are very very pleased that we got this recognition.”

The recognition is based on the system’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership and service involvement.

“This is one award that you don’t get for one school, you get that because of the work of all of the schools,” he said. “We got it as a district, but we didn’t do the hard work. A special shout-out to all of our schools, especially our Beta Club sponsors.”

Bunch showed a plaque honoring the system at the meeting. Each school will get a banner for their service in Beta Club.

“It’s really good that we got this as a district,” Bunch said.

As the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, National Beta is dedicated to leading by serving others. Their four pillars are the perfect summation of the core of National Beta. The Beta community recognizes high academic achievement, rewards and nurtures worthy character, fosters leadership skills, and encourages service to others.

Being a Beta means being a part of a community of leaders who are positively impacting the world.
