LDS Church, Central Services to host America250 Food Distribution June 4
Many events are taking place in anticipation of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
An event people don’t often associate with the event is food distribution, but it is much needed by many in the community.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Morristown-Hamblen Central Services will welcome a JustServe-branded semi-truck containing approximately 40,000 pounds of Church-donated food for families in need in Morristown, Hamblen County and the Lakeway Area. Each delivery will feed about 1,400 people per week.
The event is scheduled to take place Thursday, June 4 beginning at 10 a.m. at Central Services, located at 2450 South Cumberland Street in Morristown. The delivery is part of a national collaboration kicked off in November 2025, in which 250 truckloads of food will be donated to communities in all 50 states. Through America250’ s America Gives initiative and the Church’s Just-Serve platform, volunteers, local leaders, and community organizations are coming together to put service into action.
Central Services, Inc. has been chosen as the recipient of this significant food donation on Thursday, as part of the “America Gives” initiative — a nationwide effort coordinated by America250 in partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its JustServe program. Central Services is among only 250 organizations hand-selected across the entire United States to receive this donation in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“America Gives” is a nationwide service movement for the 250th anniversary, with the LDS Church playing a leading role through massive food deliveries, family history initiatives, and community service projects, all aimed at fostering unity, gratitude, and sustained volunteerism Approximately 25 pallets of food will be delivered to Central Services. Members of the community, local leaders, and citizens have been invited to attend.
Morristown- Hamblen Central Services has served the Hamblen County and the Lakeway Area since 1969, providing emergency food assistance, housing stability services, and comprehensive family support programs to thousands of residents annually.
The Church is using its established infrastructure, volunteer network, and humanitarian food resources to help bring America250 into neighborhoods like those in Morristown, turning a national commemoration into local service.
The 250 deliveries will provide approximately 10 million meals to families in need across the United States as part of the America Gives initiative. Americans can participate in the “America Gives” initiative by volunteering in their local communities through the “Just-Serve” program.
Morristown- Hamblen Central Services Executive Director Ashley Hux told The Tribune that food is not just sustenance — it is stability.
“When a family’s pantry is empty, everything else becomes harder to hold together,” Hux said. “Being chosen as one of only 250 organizations in this country to receive this gift is an incredible honor, and it reflects what this community has always known — that Hamblen County takes care of its own. This food will go directly to the neighbors who need it most, and we are deeply grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Just-Serve program, and America 250 for making it possible.”
