Summer Nutrition program to launch June 2
The United States Department of Agriculture’s SUN “Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids” Bulk Feeding program that was a success last year will continue this summer.
This year’s program will begin on Tuesday, June 2 and continue for all Tuesdays during June.
Locations for the pickups include West View Middle School, Whitesburg Elementary School and Witt Elementary School.
Pickup hours are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bags include meals for seven days for those under age 18. Preregistration is available. For more information, call the Hamblen County School Nutrition Department at 423581-3027. USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer and lender.
“Last year, a lot of kids were served and made a great dent in trying to address the food scarcity issue we have with our kids,” Superintendent Arnold Bunch said. “(Last year) we had never done it before, I’m really proud of our team. This is not done out of Hamblen County Schools’ funds. We did such a good job with it last year that we’re doing it again this year. Remember the volunteers because they’re going to be working out in the heat to make this happen.”
