Lakeway Christian Academy defeats Franklin Grace, moves one win from state championship series
MURFREESBORO – Lakeway Christian moved to within one game of playing for a state championship as the Lions downed Grace Christian of Franklin 3-1 in Tuesday’s state baseball tournament.
Gabe Shepler put Grace on top in the first inning on an RBI single but after that, Luke Burnett locked in and allowed only four hits the rest of the contest. He pitched all seven innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Burnett smacked a lead-off single to start the bottom of the fourth inning and then Bryson Allen sent a tworun homer over the right field fence as the Lions went up 2-1.
Kyler Worsham hit an infield single but Grace Christian had an error on the play that allowed Cainan Crowe to come home for the insurance run. Each team had five hits and the Lions kept a clean scorecard with no errors recorded.
Lakeway Christian was set to take on St. George on Wednesday for a spot in the State Championship series, but the start was delayed due to weather.
