Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps recruiting in Newport, Rutledge
Clinch Powell’s Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps program is currently recruiting for the summer season in Newport and in downtown Rutledge.
Available positions in Newport will support housing programs, including construction support, lawn care, painting, debris removal, client intake, and community outreach.
In Rutledge, available positions will support revitalization efforts in Downtown Rutledge, which was recently selected to participate in the Tennessee Downtowns program.
In both areas, members will perform landscaping, property upkeep, facility maintenance, light construction and community outreach tasks, among others, to benefit the local community.
Experience is a bonus, but not required. Clinch-Powell will provide training. Self-starters who wish to build skills in an on-the-job setting or who are looking to give back to the community are encouraged to apply.
Positions are available for individuals who are 17 years old and older. AmeriCorps provides a living allowance twice monthly, with an additional education award that can be used for college, trade school, or student loans provided at completion of the service term. The education award is good for seven years, and those who are 55 or older can transfer their education award to their child or grandchild to help pay for their education.
Seasonal positions begin June 1. Contracts range from three- to six-months, and 20- to 40-hours per week, with flexibility for students during the school year. Applicants must be 17 years old or older, with a valid driver license and reliable transportation. Other eligibility requirements apply, including fingerprinting and criminal history check.
