A Marine’s Story

James Smith for his honorable service in the United States Marine Corps.

According to family records, Smith served from 1960 to 1965, shipping out on Aug. 9, 1960. During his time in the Marine Corps, he worked in communications, specializing in composite radio communications, and held a Top Secret security clearance. His service included assignments in California and Hawaii.

Smith’s dedication to duty and exemplary conduct earned him the Good Conduct Medal, recognizing his professionalism, reliability and commitment throughout his military service.

The Veteran of the Month program honors local veterans whose service and sacrifice have helped defend the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans. By sharing their stories, the community ensures their legacy and contributions are remembered for generations to come.

The Grainger County Veteran of the Month program is sponsored by the Grainger County Journal, Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care and the Grainger County Veterans Service Office. (I will have one more photo to include from the presentation on Friday.) Cutline: Photos courtesy Veteran James Smith.
