Hurricane Watch – First month of the school year goes by quickly

B

What has seemed like the blink of an eye has now become the start of a new month.

But in the spirit of August, here are some announcements that you might have missed this week.

On Thursday, August 31st, the school took a group of Junior and Senior students to freedom hall at ETSU in attendance of the tri-cities college fair.

This event showcased over 60 different institutions from across the Southeast to discuss admissions, scholarships, campus life, and more.

Speaking of ETSU and scholarships… applications for the Roan scholarship are available to seniors who are inclined to go to college at East Tennessee State, and they are due by September 8th.

Many notable school alumni have applied for and used this scholarship to its full potential.

If you are interested, please see a counselor for more details. Open House for East is scheduled for September 28th from 4 to 7 PM at the high school. Families can use this opportunity to get more acquainted with educators and staff and to scope out one or more of the various clubs the school has to offer.

For your chance to further ingrain yourself into the school’s prided culture, make sure to check out East High’s first annual.

Club fair will feature representation and information from FCA, NAC, SAFE, chess club, adventures abroad, and many more.

This event will take place in the hallways on the same night. I has been a successful week for Hurricane athletics as both the Volleyball and soccer teams traveled to take on their respective tournaments this weekend.

The Canes had a 6 game sweep on the court at the Clinton Summer Splash Down Tournament, and stellar playing on the field. Kirsten Sadlon, SR, scored five goals in a singular game leading to a good looking outcome at Rocky Top Sports Complex.

The golf team also participated in a match this week. Some standout performances from Hunter Worth— who co-medaled with a score of 37– and Sydney Courtney— scoring a 41—and more led to a total score of 164 for the Varsity Boys and 93 for the girls.

And the always anticipated football game will take place at William Blount High School. The Marching Canes Band is still fundraising for their opportunity to play at Neyland Stadium with the Pride of the Southland.

If you feel inclined to do so, any member would be happy to provide you with information on how to contribute.

A new reminder this week that only 40 people are allowed in the library before school and at lunch, make sure that your visit meets that criterion to maintain the environment of our wonderful space.

And dually, an OLD reminder that yearbooks are on sale at their lowest price of the year— 85 dollars— and can be purchased online or through Mrs. Short. Furthermore, baby ads for seniors are also available and must be turned in by the 2nd of October to be included in this year’s edition. Labor Day weekend promises sun and fun outside of the school setting. and all of us, both at East High and the Citizen Tribune wish you a safe and restful weekend. Until next time, Go Canes!!
