In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year, Lakeway Christian Schools is proud to announce four new leaders are taking on roles that will help shape the education and support the spiritual life of the students in the community. Cornerstone Christian Academy and Lakeway Christian Academy are part of the Lakeway Christian Schools community and partner with families to provide a Christ-centered and academic challenging education for K-12 students.
“We are thrilled to welcome new staff members to our family and promote team members that have a proven track record to continue to enhance our educational excellence here at Lakeway Christian Schools,” said Dr. Kevin Cline, Head of Schools, CCA & LCA. “These four women bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We are thankful that the Lord continues to call excellent Christian educators and leaders to shape the future of our children here at LCS.”
KC Curberson-Alvarado is moving from her role as Dean of Female students into serving as the Lakeway Christian Academy (LCA) Assistant Principal while continuing to hold the role of Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Before joining LCA in the summer of 2019, she served as the CTE program manager for the Hamblen County School district.
With nearly a decade in education, she feels well prepared for her new role and appreciates that she’s continuing to focus on CTE as part of her duties as she advocates for the best education for our Lakeway area students. Serving as an assistant principal she will have the ability to build relationships with students and the teaching staff while being more involved in the curriculum.
She and her husband attend The Avenue church and are focused on giving their two children a Christ focused education through the Lakeway Christian Schools education system.
The new Instructional Coach at Cornerstone Christian Academy is also well known in the area. After serving for two years as a 2nd grade teacher, Amanda Lay is moving into her new role. Mrs. Lay is a former Jefferson County Schools teacher who won the honor of Jefferson County Teacher of the Year for PreK-4 for the 2015-2016 school year. She brings humility to the role saying, “I am most excited that God is choosing to use me. Leadership is a gift from God: it’s the ability to serve others well. A big part of what is making me successful in this role is the Christian leadership of our principal. Dr. Long emulates Christ in everything she does.”
Lay believes that all teachers are leaders. Some teachers lead students while others are put in a role to lead the bigger kids: adults. The Lays also attend The Avenue Church and are thankful tohave two children attending CCA where they are learning lessons on servanthood as well as growing in academic knowledge.
Former Assistant Principal of Hamblen County’s Meadowview Middle School, Victoria Voiles, is joining the team as the Director of Communication for Lakeway Christian Schools. “After meeting with senior leadership at Lakeway, I knew God had opened a door,” Voiles said.“Education is my passion, and I feel called to serve students, parents, and the community through this work. Lakeway Christian Schools are vibrant, energetic, and committed to excellence. This energy is contagious, and I am eager to share all that Lakeway has to offer for families in our region.”
Voiles is well versed in K-12 education and spiritual development as she has also served as Instructional Facilitator at Meadowview and currently teaches the Pre-K Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church Morristown. She and her husband are excited their eldest child is starting Pre-K at Cornerstone Christian Academy this fall.
Rachel Shrum is joining the team as Christian Life Director at Cornerstone Christian Academy. She said this new role feels like the Lord has brought her full circle. After graduating college, she served as a Pre-K aid for Cornerstone. Over the last few years she’s been working at Arrowhead Church as the Children’s Director where she built relationships with a lot of families who have students at Cornerstone.
Now the Lord is bringing her back to Cornerstone. The Lord’s timing is perfect in this new role as she will be moving from a staff member at Arrowhead Church to a staff member’s wife after her September wedding.
