NEWPORT – Grainger pitchers Trever Johnson and Bryson Bennett combined to pitch a no-hitter as the Grizzlies opened their season with a 12-0 win in five innings at Cocke County.
Johnson threw the first four innings with one walk and five strikeouts and Bennett came into the game in relief and tossed the final frame, fanning two Fighting Cock batters. At the plate, Brady Smith had the hot hand as he went 2-for-4 with four RBIs which included a double. Landon Dalton also had a two-bagger and drove in three runs by going 2-for-2 on the day. Smith and Dalton’s doubles were part of a four-run second inning for the Grizzlies.
The two teams will meet in Rutledge on Wednesday to play the game that was postponed from Monday.
