James Monroe White
December 14, 1934 – May 10, 2026 James Monroe White, 91, of Talbott, TN, passed away on Sunday, May 10. Mr. White was born in Memphis, TN, on December 14, 1934, to James Monroe and Mossie Mae Hooker White.
He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, where he served as an Elder and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and playing handbells.
A skilled carpenter and home builder throughout his life, he relocated his construction business from Memphis to Morristown after moving there with his family in 1978.
Mr. White is preceded in death by his son James Brian White.
He leaves his wife, Joyce Reed Cooper White, and his children, Sandra Lynn White Hale (Michael) of Glen Allen, VA; Charles Reed White (Susanne) of Knoxville; and Patty Ann White Reynolds (Mark) of Talbott. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jonathan Michael Hale (Carolyn) of Lynchburg, VA; Sarah Elizabeth Hale Bass (Christopher) of Mechanicsville, VA; April Marie White of Orlando, FL; James Kenneth White of Knoxville; and Kerres Morgan White of Nashville; and great-grandchildren, Emma Callaway Bass, George Chamberlain Bass, and Lydia Carriger Bass of Mechanicsville, VA.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, June 21, at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, with the Reverend Sam Schaus officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
