The Country Club to host U.S. Open local qualifiers for first time
The first stage of the U.S. Open golf championship is coming to Morristown on Tuesday.
Thanks to recent improvements to the course, The Country Club will host the U.S. Open local qualifying round for the first time.
“Our membership couldn’t be more proud of the recent improvements to the golf course,” head golf pro and clubhouse manager Nathan Blanchard said. “The enhancements reflect not only an investment in the property, but a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for players of all levels. We’re excited to showcase these upgrades and see the course take its place as a premier golf course in East Tennessee by hosting local and state events in the years ahead.”
The 18-hole course will host 78 golfers who will compete for four spots to advance to the 36-hole final qualifier. Those who advance will have the opportunity to choose from 13 different sites for a chance to secure a spot in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
The first of 26 groups will tee off at 8:30 a.m., with the final group scheduled for 12:40 p.m.
A pair of local golfers will be in the field. Lucas Tabor is set to tee off at 8:50 a.m., while Brayden Garrison will follow at 9:30 a.m.
The qualifier marks another step forward for the course as it continues to establish itself as a destination for high-level competition in East Tennessee.
