Grizzlies fall to Greeneville in district title game, advance to regions
GREENEVILLE – Making it to the regional baseball tournament is always a goal for the Grainger Grizzlies and they did just that by advancing to the district final over the weekend.
After rallying to walk-off Cherokee in the first round, the Grizzlies faced top-seeded and defending state champion Greeneville in the next round on Friday night. Will Harmon has been a reliable arm all year for the Greene Devils and he remained so as he no-hit the Grizzlies in a 10-0 victory. He had 11 strikeouts and one walk against Grainger. Greeneville scored four runs in the home half of the first inning and the Grizzlies weren’t able to recover.
Grainger had better luck in Saturday’s consolation matchup against Volunteer. The Falcons were hoping to keep their momentum going from the previous day’s victory over Cherokee and built a 3-1 lead through three innings. Grainger righted the ship and produced three runs in the home half of the third and took off from there to win 13-3. Garrett Keiter was dealing at both the plate and on the mound as the Grizzly ace had six strikeouts on the mound and hit two doubles at the plate, two of the five the Grizzlies had in the contest. Josh Walker also added a triple. The two Wal-lace’s Luke and Nolan- produced seven RBIs against the Falcons.
The Grizzlies faced Greeneville in the title game of the tournament and the Greene Devils claimed the top seed in this week’s regional tournament with a 15-1 win. Tegan Begley got the win for the Greene Devils as he had four strikeouts. Cade Brabson had an RBI for Grainger.
