Knoxville Smokies take first place in division after winning 5 straight over Montgomery Biscuits

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A five-game winning streak has propelled the Knoxville Smokies into first place in the Southern League North standings.

Knoxville, who is 8-2 in their last 10 games, returns home this week with a one game lead over Chattanooga which just happens to be the team the Smokies will face at Covenant Health Park starting on Tuesday.

Smokies 9, Biscuits 3

The Smokies took all three games over the weekend against the Montgomery Biscuits which started with a 9-3 win on Friday night.

The damage was done late as eight of the nine Knoxville runs came in the final four innings.

After Andy Garriola clubbed his 12th home run of the season, Alex Ramirez got in on the action with a pair of long balls and finished the contest with five RBIs. Owen Ayers and Carter Trice drove in multiple runs with doubles.

Jace Beck got seven strikeouts as he started the contest with Marino Santy coming in to record the win (2-2).

Smokies 12, Biscuits 5

Jefferson Rojas homered for the 10th time this season and drove in three runs to power Knoxville to a 12-5 win in Saturday’s game.

A six-run third inning gave the Smokies an early advantage and then they added five insurance runs in the ninth frame for good measure.

Ramirez and former ETSU standout Cameron Sisneros each drove in a pair of runs for the visitors.

Frankie Scalzo Jr. notched his first win of the season in relief and teammate Jackson Kirkpatrick struck out all six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings.

Smokies 4, Biscuits 3

Sunday’s finale saw the Smokies once again get the offense going in the latter part of the game to prevail 4-3.

Knoxville trailed 3-1 going to the seventh inning when Garriola started the rally with a ground out that plated Ayers.

Sisneros blasted his first round-tripper of the season on a shot to center field to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Garriola provided the gamewinner in the top of the ninth when he had a sacfly to center that brought Rojas in.

Erian Rodriguez slammed the door shut in the bottom of the ninth for his first save of 2026. Luke Little (1-0) got the win for the Smokies.
