Mary Margaret “Mellie” Bell Burnett
Mary Margaret “Mellie” Bell Burnett, age 95, of Morristown, started on her heavenly journey on Monday, February 13, 2023 at her residence.
She was a life-long member of Economy United Methodist Church and was active in the church, singing in the church choir and a member of the UMW. She graduated Morristown High School and Tusculum College.
She worked at Forest Products, Burnett Produce, and for over forty years, she and her sister, Katherine, were the faces of West End Berry Farms.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Burnett; parents, Will and Ruth Bell; beloved sister, Katherine Austin; brothers, James W.P. and Dean Bell; and nephew, Tim Bell.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Cindy) Burnett; granddaughter, the joy of her life, Ashley Burnett (Jordon) Toney; her precious great-granddaughters, Margo “Pepper” and Calli Toney; sister, Carolyn Bell Burnett; special nieces, Karen (Joe) Gibson, Beth (Rick) Rouse, and Jenny Ruth (David) Watkins; nephews, Jim (Lois) Bell, Mike (Robin) Bell, John (Carol) Austin, Phil (Karla) Austin, David (Elizabeth) Burnett, and Marlon (Beth) Bell; sisters-in-law, Jean Ann Bell and Betty Bell; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Special thanks to Smoky Mountain Hospice, the nurses at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, and especially to Carolyn Ramsey, Bobbie Gardner, and Virginia Carey.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, February 17th at Economy United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18th at the church with Rev. Trevor Roberts and Rev. Roy Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Holston Home for Children or a charity of your choice.
