East’s strong second half not enough in loss to Farragut

Morristown East put up 38 points in the final two quarters on Thursday evening against Farragut but could not overcome an 11-point halftime deficit, falling 68-63.
Kyle Cloninger led the way for East with 23 points while Mason Smith added nine points. Other scorers for East were Carter Gilliam with nine points, Caleb Billings with six points, BJ Hubbard with five points, Isaac Greene with five points and Keegan Mink with four points.
It was a solid start to the game for Farragut as the Admirals led 19-12 after one quarter. Cloninger had nine points in the opening quarter for East while Smith had the other three.
In the second, Farragut increased their lead to 11 at 36-25. Cloninger added six points while Smith hit another three.
East scored 18 points in the third quarter but gave up 19 to Farragut, trailing by 12 going to the fourth quarter. Gilliam had five points while Cloninger had four and Greene hit a three.
Needing a comeback in the final eight minutes, East put up a fight by outscoring the Admirals 20-13 but it was not enough. Hubbard had five points in the fourth while Cloninger and Gilliam each added four.
Morristown East will be back in action at home on Friday night as they take on Cocke County. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
