Former Washburn principal named Union Director of Schools

Former Washburn principal Greg Clay was recently named the new Director of Schools for Union County.
Greg Clay was born and raised in the Tater Valley community and attended Washburn School. He is in his 26th year in education.
He attended Walters State Community College and completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Tennessee.
Greg Clay started teaching in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1997. He worked at Washburn School for almost 18 years as a teacher, basketball coach, assistant principal and principal. He was principal at Horace Maynard Middle School in Union County from 2015 to 2021 before coming back to Washburn as principal.
He is married with five children and eight grandchildren.
Upon Greg Clay’s departure, assistant principal Aaron Clay was named interim principal at Washburn School.
