MAYNARDVILLE – Catelin Newman’s two-run single in the sixth helped propel the Grainger Lady Grizzlies to a 3-1 win at Union County Monday night.

Alison Byrd had six strikeouts for the Lady Grizzlies in a complete-game win. Union County scored a run in the bottom of the first and the game remained at 1-0 until Grainger came to the plate to lead off the sixth inning. Suzanne Barker doubled to center field to bring Brooklyn Copley around to score for the Lady Grizzlies’ first run. Newman sent a shot to right field that allowed Barker and Macey Sprangler to race home to make it 3-1, Grainger. The Lady Patriots could not mount a comeback as Grainger has now won four of their last five games.

The Lady Grizzlies are back in action on Tuesday as they host Cherokee.
