Trio of pitchers lead Grainger over Cocke County

NEWPORT – Grainger scored seven of their eight runs in the first two innings to post an 8-0 win over Cocke County Monday night.
The pitching trio of Brady Smith, Trever Johnson and Bryson Bennett combined for a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and three walks. Smith led the Grizzlies at the plate with three RBIs and Braylnn Sell added two. Grainger continued their onslaught of extra-base hits as they combined to hit five doubles in the contest. Sell’s double to left field was the big hit in the first inning as Grainger jumped on top 4-0 after a Smith RBI. The second inning was just as productive as Smith’s two-bagger scored Ryland Burcehtt and Kade Lucas. Landon Dalton also had a double to pick up an RBI. Burchett’s double plated Jaxon Maxey in the fifth for the last run of the contest.
Grainger will host Greeneville on Tuesday at The Den.
