American Legion hosts Veterans’ families at Fred Miller Park

On Veterans’ Family Day, there was no better place to be Saturday than the American Legion Family Day picnic at Fred Miller Park in Morristown.
The event, hosted by Post 52 of Morristown, welcomed veterans of all services and their families for various activities. After a hot dog lunch, complete with chips, drink and dessert, all were welcome to participate in corn hole, face painting, balloons and crafts.
Post 52 member Karen Nunan said that the Post currently has around 150 members and are always looking for new members.
The goal of the event was to meet every veteran in Hamblen County, whether they be combat, non-combat, male, female and those who have served in any branch of the military.
American Legion Family Day is observed annually on the last Saturday of April. It encourages posts to open their doors to members of their community for a day and celebrate the accomplishments of Legionnaires, Sons of The American Legion members and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Post 52 takes on service projects for veterans, such as construction of entrance ramps to their homes. Post 52 is located at 2435 West Andrew Johnson Highway in Morristown. Call 423-586-8459.
