Sweet & Savory: 1919 Grill and Bar gives Cumberland Gap the best of both worlds
Perusing Facebook, with a focus on the Gap (as in Cumberland Gap), leads the viewer to a locally-owned restaurant that made its mark as a food truck in Claiborne, Lee and Bell counties.
Owners Edward and Bernadette Ungrue opened the truck in February 2021.
The twist, however is that the decision to open the brick and mortar location of the Ninenteen19 Grill and Bar came first.
“The decision came in August, 2020 when we visited Cumberland Gap for the first time,” Edward said. “We made an offer on this building in September and closed the deal on January 7, 2021.”
The entrepreneurial couple headed to Orlando, Florida to pick up the food trailer.
“We wanted to introduce ourselves and our food to the area while we restored this historic building,” he said.
The menu is a veritable tour of savory and sweet delectables.
Two favorites that have remained on the menu through three seasonal changes are the Glazed Duck with Risotto and the Hawaiian Bread Pudding.
The family owned and operated restaurant is located at 602 Colwyn Street in Cumberland Gap. Call 423-259-5019 or visit 1919grill.com for more information.
