ALPS holds annual Walk to Remember

ALPS Adult Day Services held its 32nd annual Walk to Remember on Saturday.
The walk is held every year to raise funds for families who need quality care for their loved ones who are not safe to be left at home alone due to Alzheimer’s disease or other similar disabilities.
The event began with entertainment by Program Director Geraldine Miller.
Miller brings her comedy and wit to the event every year in the form of a skit to raise additional donations. This year’s skit was held with the incentive of lending attendees the pleasure of witnessing ALPS CEO Mahon Fritts don a baby costume and consume baby food.
The walk was led by the Morristown Police Department and went through Fulton Hill Park with the end of the walk resulting in a color war where walkers were sprayed with different color powder.
Director of Social Impact and Fundraising, Teri Manning says this walk was a huge success and it was great to see so many families in the community come out in support of ALPS.
“I would gauge this as a tremendous success. We had a great turnout, we had a lot of good sports and we are very grateful to the community,” Manning said.
Manning continued, “Everyone was enjoying themselves and the kids especially loved the color run. We really appreciate the community’s support of the mission of ALPS.”
The grand total of donations has yet to be released and Manning encourages those that weren’t able to attend the walk to still consider donating. Additional donations will be accepted through July 31 via the link on their website.
Many local businesses participated in the ALPS walk. Corporate teams included MAHLE, Jefferson Health Rehabilitation, Lifecare Centers, Regency Memory Care, Morristown’s Commercial Bank and TVA as a title sponsor.
MAHLE took home 1st place for money raised and is now the current proud recipient of the Loving Cup. 2nd place went to Lou’s Crew and 3rd place went to Team Willie.
Betsy Daniels took home the 1st place award in the individual category with 2nd place going to Geraldine Miller and 3rd place to Nikki Pruitt.
Manning says the community support of their mission is always appreciated as this program does so much for those in need of quality care for their loved ones.
“It’s such a family caring organization, It’s a great way to keep loved ones socially active and allows them to thrive,” Manning said.
