Defending champion Morristown East had a good night as area fans got their first look at their volleyball teams in the District 2-AAA Jamboree Thursday night at Isenburg-Siler Gym.

The Lady Hurricanes went undefeated in the unique setup for the jamboree. All five teams played each other for 30 minutes each. The score was kept until a team reached 25 points that is a regulation game.

It was then reset to 0-0 and the teams played out the rest of the period which was usually a little over eight minutes.

Led by seniors Reagan Forester and Hailey Hall, East was a perfect 4-0 in the 25-point games and won three of the four partial matches with the other ending in a tie.

Morristown West won its first three matches to set up the final battle between the two local teams which saw the Lady Hurricanes come from behind for a 25-20 victory.

East beat Jefferson County, 25-11 and 12-6, in its first battle and then came back to topple Sevier County by 25-13 before the two battled to a 9-9 deadlock in the remaining time.

The Lady Hurricanes of first-year coach Courtney Dotson then edged Cocke County, 25-22 and 8-1, before taking on their cross-town rivals.

West jumped out to a quick lead and used a 5-1 run to open a 14-9 spread before the Lady ‘Canes rallied to within 15-13.

It was 17-14 when East reeled off four straight points to take its first lead. West tied it at 18-18 but the Lady Hurricanes scored five straight to take control.

Hannah Hall and Forester had kills and Hannah served a pair of aces to lead the spurt.

Claire Bolton, who led all hitters with six kills, knocked down two straight to get West back within 23-20 but a kill sailed out of bounds and Hailey Hall served an ace to end the match.

In the remaining time, East scored the first four points and took a 4-2 victory.

Dotson said, “Our seniors did a great job of leading us tonight. The girls have been working hard to get ready and I think it was important to come out here and have a good showing.

“You know, you have a new coach and you have several new players and I think we did a good job.”

Sisters Hannah and Hailey Hall and Reagan and Riley Forester all had two kills for East in the 25-point game.

West opened with a 25-13 win over Cocke County before the Lady Red won 13-10 in the extra time. The Lady Trojans then topped Jefferson County, 25-13 and 12-6, before downing Sevier County, 25-22 and 11-8.

In other matches, Jefferson County downed Cocke County, 25-20 and 8-6 and fell to Sevier County, 25-20. The Lady Patriots won the extra session, 9-6.

Sevier County won over Cocke County, 25-22 and 8-7.
