Bearrettes hold West scoreless in first quarter, cruise to win

MORRISTOWN – Sevier County wasted little time in taking control of their game with Morristown West and went on to a 49-33 non-district win.
The Bearettes didn’t allow the Lady Trojans to score until the 6:14 mark of the second period. After going up 13-0 at the end of the first period and then 23-8 at the half, Sevier County scored the first 10 points of the third before the Lady Trojans settled in to make more of a game of it.
West was able to get things down to 33-15 at the end of three and then actually outscored the Bearettes in the final frame but the deficit built in the first half was just too much to overcome.
“We slowed them down but just couldn’t score and turned it over quite a bit,” West head coach Johnny Galyon said of the tough start to the game. “This wasn’t a good passing game for us but we had an opponent that is going to make a lot of people look bad. I wish our effort was better, even though we had some kids who played extremely hard and battled throughout. I felt we played them even in the second half, just had a hard time scoring, reversing the ball, catching the ball. It’s been a long week as we have played three games and have East on Friday. We are still a dangerous team, we just have to get a little more motivated about what we are doing.”
Jhaniya Mitchell led the Lady Trojans with eight points, Hannah Madison paced Sevier County with 15 points.
