Larry David Cope

Larry David Cope, age 78, or born on May 27, 1948, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026 at Morristown- Hamblen Healthcare System. Larry grew up in Bean Station and was a graduate of Rutledge High School. He enjoyed working on his cars and racing. His grandfather Clay Cope owned a car lot in Bean Station and he loved to tinker with his grandfathers’ “Inventory”. He also worked on lawnmowers and discovered he could make them go faster. He used to work on the cars at the racetracks in Bulls Gap and in Newport, helping to make them go faster just as he had done with the lawnmowers. He also raced remote control cars, winning a few trophies. He enjoyed watching Nascar and rarely missed watching a race. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was always ready for a good laugh and joked around as often as he could. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bean Station. He was employed by Magnavox of Jefferson City for over 30 years until they closed. After they closed, he got his insurance license and sold Insurance at Five Point Insurance with his friends, Ernie and Lois Hopkins for several years. After retirement he enjoyed meeting with his friends at Charlotte’s for breakfast and lively conversation. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Cleo Cope of Morristown; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Edward Dewitt and Imojean Horner of Jefferson City; and step-son, Joe Horner of Talbott. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathi Cope; sister, Joan Bible of Morristown; brothers-in-law, Duane (Pam) Justis and Glenn (Beverly) Lichlyter of Jefferson City; also several close cousins and family members and special friends, Alan “Alabama” Walker and Robert “Pedro” Carter.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Scott officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside services. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
