Angels win Parks and Rec Minor League Championship over Nationals

The Angels scored three first-inning runs and never trailed for the rest of the evening, taking a 6-2 win over the Nationals in the Morristown Parks and Recreation Minor League City Championship at McAmis- Sempkowsk i field.

The Angels closed the season 11-2, and the Nationals also finished 11-2.

Jack Dalton led off the game for the Angels with a triple and River Hurst sent him home with a double. The Angels then made it 3-0 with singles from Caleb Coleman and Leo Hopkins.

Lane Helton led off the bottom of the first with a walk, followed by a single from Greyson Winstead. Baylor Murphy sent Helton home to make it 3-1.

Cohen Lemons followed with a walk to load the bases with three outs, but Dalton worked out of the jam by striking out three straight batters to retire the side.

The Angels opened the top of the second inning with walks from Elijah Lemka and Camden Hayes with one out. However, the Nationals were able to keep them from scoring after Murphy struck out a batter and a runner was caught stealing third.

Walks from Cooper Smith and Winstead was all the Nationals got in the bottom of the second and third, and they took the Angels’ side down in order at the top of the third.

Both sides got back in the scoring column in the fourth inning. Derry and Coleman led off the inning with walks for the Nationals, and they rounded the bases all the way home to lead 5-1.

Joris Witte had a oneout walk in the bottom of the frame and was sent home thanks to a double from Andrew Westra that closed the gap to 5-2. Hayes, Charlie Goosie, Hurst and Derry each drew walks to add another run for the Angels in the top of the fifth, and Coleman struck out the Nationals’ side in order to clinch the championship.

The champs fanned 10 batters with eight coming from Dalton. Murphy struck out six for the Nationals and Mason Crigger struck out three in relief.
