Music and Choir Director Randy Adams dies at age 91
Randolph “Randy” H. Adams, died on May 29, 2026, at Johson City Medical Center following a prolonged illness. Randy was born and raised in Lawn, TX on April 10, 1935. He pursued his love of music at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. After his graduation in 1959, he relocated to Morristown, Tennessee and served for 15 years as Minister of Music at First United Methodist Church. Additionally, he was the founder and director of the Hamblen County Choral Society for 20 years.
After completing his master’s degree at the University of Tennessee he was the director of the choral department at both East and West High Schools in Morristown, TN for 16 years. He later moved to Limestone, TN and taught 12 additional years at Science Hill High School in Johnson City prior to retirement. A highlight of his musical career was directing the Science Hill High School Concert Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Randy was well known for directing annual high school musicals, multiple choral programs in the community, and serving as choir director at several local churches. His passion for music inspired many students to pursue careers in music and/or theater.
Randy’s other love was working on the farm, raising livestock, and gardening.
He was a member of Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tn.
Randy is survived by his wife, Pat, his son Bill Adams (Linda), stepchildren Geoff (Patty), Holly, and Sandy Holland, his brother, Wayne Adams (Glenda) and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews: Amanda (predeceased), Andrea (Eric), Billy, Grace, Claire, Tim (Alba), Kathy (Wayne), Melissa (Eric).
A celebration of life will be held in the future at Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the music department at Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City, TN or Jonesborough Repertory Theatre in Jonesborough, TN.
