Party Like it’s 1989

It was an era of spandex and Spandau Ballet marked by Day-Glo neon colors, hair metal, the last gasps of disco and the nascent era of alternative rock.

It was a time to wear sunglasses at night.

It was the 1980s and is return- ing to Downtown Morristown this Friday night.

Guests can expect nothing but a good time as Club Rewind – a 1980s cover band – is the featured guest at First Friday, the monthly musical celebration scheduled for the first Friday of each month on the Downtown Green at the Farmer’s Market.

“This is the first time we’ve done kind of a themed night,” Director of Downtown Development Natasha Morrison said. “We’re excited to see how the crowd enjoys that.”

The event will start at 6 p.m. but if you can’t make it right on time, you can Relax. Frankie says Club Rewind won’t hit the stage until 7 p.m. bringing two hours of hits spanning the decade including, but not limited to, songs from:

• Journey • Prince

• Toto

• The Go-Go’s

• Bon Jovi

• MC Hammer

• Rick Springfield

• Foreigner

• Loverboy

• Tone Loc

• Survivor

• Stray Cats

• Poison

• Whitney Houston

• Whitesnake

• Queen

• And more.

Opening the evening at 6 p.m. will be Crown and Compass.

Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme with 1980s-inspired attire.

“The bigger the hair, the better,” Morrison said.

She’s hoping she’ll see neon colors, acid- wash denim and other throwback fashions.

Vendors will be on hand selling food, beverages and a variety of other items.

The event will also feature food trucks, a night market under the Farmers Market Pavilion and craft beer from 1907 Brewing Co.

Attendees can register at the beer ticket tent for a chance to win downtown gift cards, part of an initiative designed to encourage visitors to return and support Main Street businesses throughout the month. This month’s featured gift cards are from Cruze Farm and Between the Bricks.
