Morristown East’s Jaxson Archer signed to Tusculum University to continue his athletic and academic career for the Pioneers’ basketball program.

As a steady contributor for the Hurricanes over the past two seasons, Archer earned an opportunity at the next level after his senior season to continue playing the game he loves.

“It feels good just to go and play what I’ve been doing my whole life,” Archer said. “Love the game, and I’m excited for the opportunity to play.

“Tusculum is close, it’s a good program and I like the coaches there. It’s gonna be a great opportunity.”

“It’s really special. It’s always good to see a kid continue his education and his basketball career at the next level,” East head coach Brice Cusick said. “Jaxson holds a special place in my heart because he’s been here since however long I’ve been here. So it’s really good to see that, and I’m happy for him and his family.”

Archer was a two-year starter for Cusick at East, playing in stints on varsity during the team’s run to state in 2023. As a senior, Archer averaged 13.1 points, two assists and nearly three rebounds for the ‘Canes.

“He’s meant a whole lot to us as a coach staff and as a program,” Cusick said. “Just a great kid to have on the team, and just a kid that always shows up day in, day out, and you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Both Cusick and Archer are excited to see what he brings to the table at Tusculum.

“Tusculum is hopefully getting a three-point shooter and a good defender,” Archer said. “I’m gonna put the work in and just be ready. I’m excited to play.”

“They’re gonna get a kid that’s gonna show up day in day out, and really bust their tail for him,” Cusick said. “I’m excited to see what he does over there.”
