Pay it Forward fitness group donates to Habitat for Humanity

Area non-profits are in better shape after receiving donations through a local fitness group’s mission of generosity.

Pay it Forward fitness is led by Dona Byron and is “a happy and healthy group of friends who desire to belong in a loving, supportive exercise group” that offers free fitness classes, albeit with requested donations.

They meet at the gymnasium at First Presbyterian Church in Morristown.

The group votes on a new nonprofit every month to receive their donations.

Lakeway Area Habitat for Humanity was the group chosen in May and they received a check for $743 to help support its mission of building “strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable housing.”

“I love that the group is taking care of themselves and others at the same time,” Lakeway Habitat Community Outreach Coordinator Leslie Brenna said. “It shows a commitment to community and a shared value of putting God’s love into action.”

Central Services is the June recipient and Morristown Hamblen Humane Society was voted to receive July donations.

While the donations go primarily to the chosen nonprofit, 10% goes to the church to help cover things like utilities costs.

Each week, Pay It Forward Fitness typically offers Cardio Circuit from 11 a.m. to noon on Sundays; Cardio Groove from 10 to 10:50 a.m. on Tuesdays followed by either Mindful Yoga or Gentle Flow & Stretch from 11 to 11:45 a.m.; Cardio Conditioning from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays followed by pickleball at 12:15 p.m.; and Cardio Conditioning with extra stretching from 11 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on Fridays.

The group also periodically offers Freestyle Fitness, a class that combines cardio, strength, and balance and movement exercises.
