Church’s “Joyful Hearts” Ministry will host a program “Living with Grief and Loss,” at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 21 at the church.
How do you live with a broken heart? Is “weeping and wailing” a sign of no faith? “Grief can come like a wave – unexpected, overwhelming, and painful,” said the Rev. Dr. Darris Doyal. “Whether you’re mourning the loss of a loved one, or navigating the pain of divorce, or any other deep sorrow, the hurt is real.”
“If you’re searching for ways to cope with your sorrow,” he said, “take comfort in knowing that God cares about you and your pain.”
Doyal, a former FUMC pastor from 2003 to 2009, will be sharing Biblical insights into grief. He has been an active pastor and “an occasional bureaucrat” for 46 years, as well as a poet and a writer. A proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Doyal also claims to be “a fulltime prankster.”
Ben Stapleton, FUMC Director of Music Ministries, will look at hymns addressing grief and divine comfort.
The program will consist of a morning session and a brief afternoon session that will follow lunch by Jersey Girl Catering.
The cost of the meal is $10. Registration for the program will close at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 18. To register, visit www. fumcmorristown.org.
