Jim Coleman
Jim Coleman, age 81, of Bulls Gap, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at his home.
Jim was born to Leslie “Skeet” Coleman and Lee Coleman on July 14, 1944.
He graduated from Pompano Beach High School in Florida. Jim and LaVon were happily married on June 14, 1969 for 56 years together they built a home on faith in God, dedication to church, and love for the family. His dedication to church and God continued throughout his life. Jim had multiple Technical School degrees; including aircraft mechanics, welding, and many other trades. He was a veteran of The United States Air Force, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was very proud of his service to his country and could be seen most of the time with his Veteran’s cap on. He worked as a airplane mechanic for Panam and Bahamas Airways. Jim also worked as a zinc miner at U.S. Steel in Jefferson City and later for Old Dominion Freight Lines as a truck driver. Jim was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 50 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and many other jobs as well as occasionally preaching. Jim enjoyed woodworking, planting a garden, reading the Bible and Western Books, hunting, fishing, and loved the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, LaVon Coleman; parents, Leslie “Skeet” Coleman and Lee Coleman.
He is survived by his children, Rachelle Coleman, Les Coleman, and Jenny Coleman; little brother, Bob Coleman and wife Diane; grandson, Hunter Coleman and fiancée, Joehannah Davis; adopted family, Tim, Kim. Eligeh, and Isaiah Brooks; aunt, Ellen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family of Jim wishes to extend their sincere thanks to special caretaker and friend of the family, Sheradon Lindsey for all the care and love she provided. Also, a special thank you to the VA Hospital and Home Based primary care.
Visitation hours will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm with Rev. Dannie Bell and Rev. Terry Bunch officiating. Music will be provided by Don and Betty Holder, Rachel Greene, Grainger Collier, and Marinda Gentry.
A Military Graveside service will be held Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Courtney Cemetery. Anyone who wishes to attend the graveside is asked to meet at Courtney Cemetery by 12:45 pm.
Pallbearers will be Les Coleman, Hunter Coleman, Tim Brooks, Eligeh Brooks, Isaiah Brooks, Robby Coleman, Terry Matthews, and Gary Collier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Pinkston and Kevin Gentry.
