Pickin’ and Grinnin’: Fourth Annual Morristown Bluegrass Festival set for May 2

Get ready for a toe-tapping good time. The City of Morristown’s Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to announce its 4th annual Bluegrass Festival, taking place on Saturday, May 2, from noon to 7 p.m. at the Downtown Farmers Market and Green.
This year’s festival promises an afternoon filled with exceptional bluegrass music, delicious food, and unique artisan vendors. Headlining the event is the sensational and incredibly talented Carson Peters and Iron Mountain.
Carson Peters and Iron Mountain have quickly become one of the most energetic and sought-after bands on the bluegrass scene.
With numerous appearances at the Grand Ole Opry, international tours, and countless chart-topping songs on bluegrass and bluegrass gospel charts, their traditional style and captivating A Cappella arrangements are a testament to the enduring spirit of classic bluegrass. The band comprises the gifted Carson Peters from Piney Flats, TN, the accomplished James McDowell from Hendersonville, NC, the talented Taylor Parks (20) from Bloxom, VA, and the skilled Austin Tate from Marion, VA. Since signing with Billy Blue Records in 2023 and releasing their latest project, “Gotta Lotta Lonesome,” the band continues to garner acclaim, attributing their success to divine guidance.
The Bluegrass Music Line-up includes:
• Noon – 2 p.m.: Cumberland Station The Lakeway Area based neo-traditional old-time and bluegrass band. featuring Cole Clemons and friends, blending traditional sounds with bluegrass and country influences, delivering an energetic and engaging performance.
• 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.: Carson Peters and Iron Mountain
• 5 – 7 p.m. Admiral Radio This award-winning folk/Americana act from South Carolina is the creative partnership of Coty Hoover and Becca Smith. Named after their old wooden radio, this husband-and-wife team blends heartfelt harmonies, storytelling, and raw sincerity.
Having met while waiting tables in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, their sound is straightforward yet powerful rooted in tight vocal interplay and finely picked acoustic instruments.
Inspired by the everyday, their songs explore life lessons, the quiet hustle of ordinary life, and the dogged optimism that drives it all.
They have also earned finalist and first-place honors in prestigious songwriting competitions around the country, including Kerrville NewFolk, the MerleFest Band Competition, Cayamo Soundcheck, and the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Official Songwriter Showcase

The Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition will join in the day for their first-ever “Pitching for Prevention” tournament. All Skill Levels Welcome: this tournament is all about having a great time for a great cause! Bags Fly: 11:00 AM sharp.
