Morristown East softball lost its 24th game against a single victory as Daniel Boone rolled to a 12-2 victory Tuesday afternoon at King Park.

The Lady Trailblazers collected a dozen hits, including five doubles and a home run to rack up their 15th win. They have lost 18 times.

Abby Sherman banged out a home run and two singles and Laney Britton chipped in two doubles and a single for the Lady Blazers. Payton Gwinn and Lilly Hilton added a double and a single apiece.

Tayla Brice had a pair of doubles to lead the Lady Hurricanes’ five-hit attack. Ava Combs also doubled and MaKenzie Maness and Paige Horner added singles.

The Lady Blazers scored a single marker in the first and then took advantage of six hits and three East errors to score seven times in the second.

The Lady ‘Canes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as Combs doubled and scored on another two-bagger by Brice.

East chopped another run off the deficit in the third as Maness and Horner had hits. The Lady Hurricanes threatened again in the fourth with runners on second and third.

But after a strikeout, shortstop Britton grabbed a line drive behind second base and stepped on the bag for a double play.

In the fifth frame, Rheagan Lothridge was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a hit by Britton. Gwinn doubled in another run before Sherman smacked a long two-run shot to give the Lady Blazers a 10-run lead.

Winning pitcher Emmi Croley set East down in order in the bottom of the fifth to end it.

Croley pitched four innings with Lothridge working the fourth frame. She gave four hits, walked one and struck out four.

Jaycee Hamilton was the loser. She walked three, hit one and struck out four.

East coach Leslie Clemmons said, “It was another tough day. We had three costly errors and gave up another big inning because of that.

“We’ve have got to start making routine plays if we’re going to have a chance to win ball games. We put the ball in play offensively but they made some really good plays on defense.

“We’ll get back to work and try to get better.”
