Like an Eagle: Troop 91 celebrates Eagle Scout duo

B

Boy Scout Troop 91 has been sponsored by First United Methodist Church in Morristown continuously since 1940.

Since that time dozens of young men have been presented with the Eagle Award.

The most recent two were honored at the Troop’s Scout Sunday at the church, and their addition to the roll brings Troop 91’s total to 199.

Bruin Corbett and Connor Kongchan were confirmed to have met the requirements of the rank/award and were celebrated on the occasion.

Corbett built a 9’x19’ covered drop-off pavilion for off-hour donations at the Morristown Central Services building on S. Cumberland Avenue.

The addition of a metal roof and concrete floor for the structure will allow people to leave their donations out of the weather due to the protection of the new covering.

In addition to the pavilion, Corbett constructed three portable tote racks which can hold nine bins each. They will be used for donation sorting and storage as needed.

Kongchan’s Eagle Project consisted of the construction of a 20’x24’ outdoor pavilion next to the playground between Manley Elementary and Manley Primary Schools. Featuring a school-matched blue colored metal roof, a concrete floor and white vinyl trim, the pavilion is intended to offer shade for teachers during outdoor activities and to serve as an outdoor classroom. It can fit four to six picnic tables.

Kongchan is a Manley alumni of the school.

Troop 91 is finishing up its fundraising season in preparation of sending scouts to camps this summer and is constantly busy with service projects like Scouting for Food and traditional activities like hiking and camping.
