Kingswood Home for Children hosting inaugural 5K

Kingswood Home for Children is hosting its first-3K and one-mile fun run on May 9 to benefit its operations and mission to take care of children who have been displaced through no fault of their own.
The race is designed to take racers through the historic and scenic campus of the children’s home that exists where the historic Tate Springs Hotel and resort once stood.
“It’s a great opportunity for folks to come out and visit our campus, have some family fun, and also to help support Kingswood Home for Children,” Kingswood Executive Director David Williams said. “The race will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May the 9th, and of course people can go online right now to our Kingswood website to register, pre-register, and of course we’ll take registration at the table that morning also. Everybody will get a t-shirt.”
Williams said he’s working to get the community engaged with the ministry so people who might not have been familiar with the organization can understand how much community support means in changing the lives of children for the better.
“(The race is) an opportunity for our generous community to connect with our mission here at Kingswood of taking care of children that have been displaced at no fault of their own,” he said. “And again, we’re totally non-profit, non-government funded, and non-denominational. So we completely depend upon the generosity of the churches and communities that see us to help us fulfill our mission.”
Kingswood sits on the Tate Springs historically significant resort complex that was prominently utilized in the early 20th century until a fire destroyed the hotel at the site in 1963.
The Tate Springs Springhouse is a two-story gazebo that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the most iconic remaining structure on the property, though Williams is sure runners will enjoy the lovely property they will be running through.
“It’s very scenic, very beautiful,” he said. “People will get to see our campus and get to see the historical buildings that are left on our campus, the chapel and our bathhouse, the remains of the old hotel that burned down.”
