Your car is stolen. Your house is burning. Your chest is hurting. What’s your first point of contact?

Regardless of the time, day or night, or whether one needs law enforcement, the fire department, or an ambulance, a call to Hamblen County 911 gets them all.

The Joyful Hearts Ministry of the First United Methodist Church Morristown will host a program, “911: The Lifeline of Public Safety,” at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 16, at the church.

S. Eric Carpenter, E.N.P., will be the guest speaker.

Carpenter came to Hamblen County Emergency Communications District in September 2011 having served as the Emergency Management Agency Director for the City of Morristown and Hamblen County for 10 years. As Executive Director of Hamblen County 911, he oversees emergency dispatch services for Morristown and Hamblen County.

Carpenter is a certified Emergency Number Professional known for managing regional dispatch staffing, technology, and emergency services.

Jersey Girl Catering will provide food. The cost of the meal is $10. Registration for the program will close at noon Monday, April 13. To register, visit www.fumcmorristown.org.

An adult ministry group of First United Methodist Church, Joyful Hearts host education programs at the church about history and science.

The stated purpose of Joyful Hearts is “to nurture the lives of adults 50 years and older as they join together in fellowship, and as they reach out to serve the needs of others in the church and in the community at large.”

Each month, Joyful Hearts choose a mission to serve. In April, the group is accepting donations for “Rise Against Hunger,” which works in countries worldwide to fight hunger, targeting communities facing high rates of food insecurity.

First United Methodist Church and Joyful Hearts will package meals for global hunger relief at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Cumberland Place building.

First United Methodist Church is located at 101 East First North Street in Morristown. To ask about Joyful Hearts, call 423-581-2180.
