Police chase ends in arrest

A vehicle pursuit that began with a traffic stop in Greene County ended with a crash and arrest after the driver attempted to flee law enforcement across multiple highways, a Tennessee Highway Patrol report said.

Troopers initiated the stop March 27 for “moving violations,” but the driver fled, traveling along U.S. Highway 11E before continuing south onto Highway 113, where a Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office deputy deployed a spike strip.

One tire was affected and the vehicle, a black Volvo, continued to flee using its remaining 3 tires.

The pursuit continued onto Highway 160, with the driver traveling north before exiting at Merchants Greene Boulevard, headed towards W. Andrew Johnson Highway. During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to run troopers off the road and at one point drove into oncoming traffic.

Authorities said the vehicle later struck a trooper’s patrol car after re-entering the roadway. The trooper then used his patrol vehicle to force the suspect’s vehicle onto a curb, ending the pursuit.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
