Hatton 2, Morristown East 1
Brett Carden pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs and striking out nine batters, but the ‘Canes fell to Hatton in a pitcher’s duel. Hatton scored first in the top of the second before Jordan Tipton’s RBI single tied it in the bottom of the frame. An RBI single regained the Hatton lead in the third, and that score stuck for the rest of the game.
Chelsea 8, Morristown West 2
Collin and Connor Rouse each had two-hit days, but the Trojans fell to Chelsea to kick off spring break. The Hornets scored two runs in the first and fourth to lead 4-1, and a three-run homer put the game out of reach in the seventh. Caleb Rodrick helped West put in each of their runs with a fielder’s choice scoring one in the bottom of the second, and he reached on an error and scored one in the fourth. Connor Rouse scored both runs and had a double and a triple.
Jefferson County 7, William Blount 6
The Patriots continued their undefeated start to District 2-4A action with a 7-6 win over William Blount, using seven hits and seven RBIs from their top four batters. Drew Molter had three hits and an RBI, and Brody Carr had two hits and three RBI, scoring two on a double and another on a single. Jackson Ormonde also had two RBIs.
Cherokee 7, Greeneville 6
Jayden Weston’s RBI single in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner as Cherokee beat Greeneville 7-6. Eli Boyd had a double and a pair of RBIs for the Chiefs. Porter Owen and Steven Barnes each had four strikeouts for Cherokee.
Pigeon Forge 8, Claiborne 4
Noah Burke drove in two runs and had a double for Claiborne but Pigeon Forge was still able to double up the Bulldogs, 8-4. Brayden Grim added a triple for Claiborne.
Grainger 4, Volunteer 0
Garrett Keiter put on an absolute show for the Grainger Grizzlies as he struck out 14 Volunteer batters, walked one and allowed only one hit in a 4-0 win over the Falcons. Linx Moore provided the offense for the Grizzlies as had three RBIs.
Gatlinburg-Pittman 5, Washburn 4
Bryson Clay went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and had six strikeouts on the mound for Washburn but Gatlinburg-Pittman was still able to prevail over the Pirates 5-4.
Fulton 3, Cocke County 2
Fulton scored on an error in the top of the seventh to edge past Cocke County. Jackson Watts started and finished the game with six K’s. The Fighting Cocks scored each of their runs on groundouts.
Softball
Morristown West 9, Sumiton Christian 4
The Lady Trojans put in six runs in the top of the second to open spring break action with a win over Sumiton Christian. Sydney Mendez started the rally by scoring one on a fielder’s choice with loaded bases. With two outs, Kara Dyke cleared the bases with a three-run triple and later scored off a double from Kaylynn Milton. Sumiton crept back with a three-run fourth inning, but West put in two more un the top of the sixth to seal it. Milton, Adyson Collins and Mackenzie Lucky had two hits, with Lucky earning the win in the circle.
William Blount 6, Jefferson County 2
William Blount scored four runs in the final three innings to leap past Jefferson County. After the Lady Govs scored two runs in the first, Kayli Reece hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to get the Lady Patriots on the board. A sac fly made it 3-1 WB before an error helped Jeff trim it to 3-2. However, a two-run homer in the top of the seventh set the final score.
Claiborne 11, Cherokee 4
Jacey Ferguson’s monster Monday propelled Claiborne to an 11-4 win at Cherokee. She had a three-run bomb in the third inning and also had a two-run triple in the first. Tayleigh Stansberry fanned 11 Cherokee batters while only walking two. Jaylyn Cutshall went 4-for-5 for Cherokee with three RBIs.
Cocke County 9, Grainger 3
Hailee Hartsell had an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning as the Lady Red downed Grainger 9-3. In the circle, she struck out 10 Grainger batters and didn’t give up a walk. Emma Hodge had a double for the Lady Grizzlies.
