A Cocke County man found stabbed outside a Newport rental place has died from his injuries.

According to a release from the Newport Police Department, officers were called to Uptown Rentals in the 400 block of West Broadway Street. Upon investigation, the stabbing was determined to be the result of a domestic assault.

Michael Wayne Steveson, age 50, was stabbed and taken to an area hospital, but died of his injuries.

NPD Chief Scott Lamb said that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. No further details will be released at this time.
