A Greeneville man who is the subject of child sexual abuse was arrested Wednesday by White Pine Police.

Thomas C. Payne, 58, was charged with one count of Rape of a Child and five counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery stemming from a report received March 12.

According to the WPPD, the investigation began after a report received March 12 that involved alleged incidents between January, 2022 and December, 2023 involving a victim who was between 11 and 12 years of age at the time of the incidents.

In the release by WPPD, it said “Due to the case’s sensitive nature and to protect the identity and well-being of the victim and their family, no additional details were released by the department.

These crimes against children are taken with the utmost seriousness by thorough investigation with those responsible parties being held accountable.”

Additional charges are expected in the near future in coordination with another jurisdiction. Anyone with information related to this case should call the White Pine Police Department at 865-674-2555.

Payne is being housed in the Jefferson County Detention Center in Dandridge.
