Field set for August primary elections

The qualifying deadline for primary and general elections for the State of Tennessee was Tuesday and the fields are set for Thursday, August 6 election.
Hamblen County Administrator of Elections Jeff Gardner provided a list of qualified candidates.
The election date is the primary election for Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate (odd-numbered districts), Tennessee House, and Republican and Democratic State Executive Committees.
It is the general election date for vacant state judicial offices and applicable county offices.
Candidates who have filed for the Aug. 6 election in Hamblen County include:
• Circuit Court Judge, 3rd Judicial District, Part 2: Aaron J. Chapman (Independent) and Mark Stephen Stapleton (Independent).
• Democratic State Executive Committeeman, Senate District 9: Joshua Franklin (Democrat).
• Democratic State Executive Committeewoman, Senate District 9: Sara Thompson (Democrat).
• Republican State Executive Committeeman, Senate District 9: Josh Collins (Republican).
• Republican State Executive Committeewoman, Senate District 9: Dianne Garland, Rebecca “Becky” Skelton and Nancy Wilson (all Republicans).
• Tennessee House of Representatives, District 10: Rick Eldridge (Republican).
• Tennessee House of Representatives, District 11: Kenny Cody, Jeff Fancher and Charles R. Southerland (all Republicans), Sheila Grooms McMahan (Democrat), Larry Jeremiah Brown (Independent)
• Tennessee Senate, District 9: Chad Huntsman and Steve Southerland (both Republicans).
The District 11 House race is notable for a Hamblen County candidate Charles Southerland. After the state split Hamblen County’s representation in the House by divvying the county into two districts, eastern Hamblen County, where Southerland runs his farm, has been represented by Rep. Jeremy Faison, who is stepping down.
All of the other Republican, and the Democrat, candidates hail from Cocke County.
