Meteorologist Kyle Grainger to give portions of book sales from his downtown appearance to Humane Society

Kyle Grainger is bringing his cookbook to Morristown this Saturday at the Central Market Breakfast Bakery in Downtown Morristown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The meteorologist and WVLT Sevierville bureau chief/media personality hopes sales of his cookbook can benefit area non-profits, and proceeds from sales on Saturday will raise funds for the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society.

“I collaborated some family recipes and stories of my childhood growing up and then collected the recipes, (using) the actual measurements from Grandma when she was doing it,” he said. “I grew up in a small town called Loris, South Carolina, which is near Myrtle Beach. So fresh seafood and things were popular on our menu quite a bit, although I didn’t write as much about it in the cookbook as maybe I should have.”

What the cookbook, “Cooking with Kyle,”0 has is all the tastes of home with the southern influence and comfort cooking he remembers from his formative years.

After writing the book, Grainger decided he wanted to give proceeds to charity and his mother gave him the idea for the first recipient.

“The first one was the, the church back home in South Carolina; they’re a small church, 10, 20 people at most on a Sunday morning,” he said. “And Mom said, ‘we could use the money.’”

He said that after printing costs were covered the rest of the money could go do some good.

“Then it sold so well, people wanted it again. So I said, ‘Well, maybe I’ll do some more donations for other charities.’ So this weekend will be for the Humane Society there in Morristown.

“I’ve done some here in Sevier County for the food ministry and we’ll just see where it goes. People invite me to different places.

“It’s been a fun journey to meet people. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t scheduled. It’s just all kind of happened and I’m just letting it take me wherever I’m supposed to be.”

Grainger will have signed books for sale for $20.

Organizers are encouraging people to bring donations of goods or money for the Humane Society which is currently running at capacity as “puppy season” is beginning.
